This is the process I used to do a Live Case Study over the 5 Weeks of hosting Alumni Mentor sessions for Building a Second Brain. It follow’s the course’s Signature System: CODE - Capture. Organize. Distill. Express. This section is part of my piece on being an Alumni Mentor: How Building A Second Brain Triggers Flow and Enhances Wellbeing.

Capture
Beginning with reading and exporting the notes from the book Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art as well as some additional notes from my own experiences doing breath work following reading the book.

Organize
All these notes landed in my main Second Brain application, Evernote, where I was also able to search for any additional notes I had on the subject. I also began the process of progressively summarizing the book, so I had it distilled down to the key points. Here’s what my final progressively summarized note for the Book breath looks like.

Distill
One of the key next steps was to write my own summary of the book into a Tweetstorm and post on Twitter. Using the progressively summarized version of the book in my notes, made it much easier. This Tweetstorm gave me insight on what resonated with people about the subject.

Express
With the Tweetstorm knowledge and its basic framework, I included other facts and my own experiences into a narrative that became this post: Time to Take A Breath, which I shared as we ended our final week together.
